The Community

We recognise and appreciate our responsibility to be active participants in our community. Since a company’s workforce and operational strength depend upon the economic and social health of its community, this relationship is mutually reinforcing. More than ever, a company’s strength depends on the health of the community in which it operates.

We are committed to responsible business practices throughout our operations and to comply with all legislation and regulations pertaining to our business.

We encourage our guests to enjoy and experience the local culture, heritage, cuisine and produce.  We always prefer making our purchases from local suppliers and producers, aiming at ensuring the sustainability of the community and promoting local products. Nearly all of our fruit, vegetables and meat products are purchased from local farmers. By buying local, we are sure to receive the freshest possible produce, picked just hours before delivery. Supporting local farms today helps keep those farms in our community, ensuring that our children and grandchildren have access to nourishing, flavorful and abundant food. Where possible we also try to use local trade people and companies for property maintenance and operation.

The Hotel also carefully considers how it may help the local community through donations and the support of local events. Our charitable donations and community initiatives facilitate projects in the area and throughout the Maltese Islands.

Our Employees

We respect our employees and value them by sharing information with them. Customer satisfaction, through the services provided, is important for the success of the company; however, we believe that the wellbeing and satisfaction of our employees is as much as important.

Our employee Policies and Procedures emphasise our commitment to fair and consistent treatment of employees.  Through our employee handbook we share the company’s mission and values with the employees giving them a look into the organisation as a whole and how their role impacts the great picture.

Qawra Palace Hotel is committed to a work environment in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. Each individual has the right to work in a professional atmosphere that promotes equal employment opportunities and prohibits discriminatory practices.

No employee or job applicant will receive less favourable treatment on the grounds of race, colour, religion, ethnic or national origin, sex, marital status, sexual orientation or disability. The policy will be applied in the context of all conditions of work, including selection employment, pay and benefits, facilities, promotion, training, employees and guests.

All employees are duty bound to advise their direct superior or manager of any such discrimination. Any employee who discriminates on grounds of race, colour, sex, marital status, sexual orientation or disability may be guilty of misconduct and liable to be dealt with under the disciplinary procedure.

Harassment policy

Sexual harassment is specifically defined as unwanted sexual advances, requests for sexual favours, and other verbal physical conduct or communication of a sexual nature. Under this policy, harassment is verbal, written or physical conduct that denigrates or shows hostility or aversion toward an individual because of his/her race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, marital status, citizenship or any other characteristic or that of his/her relatives, friends or associates and that a) has the purpose or effect of creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment; b) has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual’s work performance; or c) otherwise adversely affects an individual’s employment opportunities.

Individuals who believe they have been the victims of conduct prohibited by this policy statement or who believe they have witnessed such conduct should discuss their concerns with their immediate supervisor or manager.

The Environment

As one of the main players in the hospitality industry on the island we are committed to minimizing the negative impacts of our operation on the environment and to undertake relevant steps to restore and preserve the environment.

We are fully committed to protecting our shared environment – for the quality of life now and in the future. To support this goal, which is no doubt common to our guests, employees, and other stakeholders, we will:

  • Comply with applicable local and national environmental regulations.
  • Continually improve the environmental performance of our products and processes.
  • Protect the health and safety of our guests and employees, and surrounding communities and ecosystems.
  • Use natural resources, including raw materials, energy, and water, as efficiently as possible.
  • Invite our guests to support our efforts to reduce our environmental impact.

We will work to achieve these commitments by requiring environmental awareness training of key employees, by evaluating products and processes for environmental acceptability in the first place, and by working collaboratively with our suppliers and the surrounding community on environmental issues.

Main Aspects 

We will promote and implement environmental practices and continuous improvement in our dayto-day operations to limit our impact on the environment where we can. Our environmental practices include:

  • Limit noise in and around our property.
  • Promote and use recyclable materials.
  • Recycle as much of our glass, paper, organic and non- organic waste.
  • Continuously explore ways to reduce CO2 emissions through electricity, heat and fuels production and consumption.
  • Identify water saving opportunities and solutions which can help reduce water consumption.
  • Stressing to our guests to use water, energy and other resources responsibly through the promotion of towels and sheets re-use, promotion of the public transport system for an environmental-friendly arrival to the hotel and island sightseeing and similar initiatives.
  • Provide information, instruction and training for employees on relevant environmental issues.

Awareness and Competence

We are committed to assessing the environmental impacts of our operations on a regular basis for existing operations and before commencing new activities in order to minimize the identified impact. We constantly stimulate awareness for environmental issues and competence among our employees with respect to environmental protection by means of providing training as well as by internally communicating the policy, annual objectives, targets and our environmental performance on a regular basis.
